Butterfly Table tennis racket Timo boll series

The Butterfly Timo Boll series is a massive collection that spans from casual backyard paddles to the precise carbon blades used by the German legend himself. To find the right one, you have to distinguish between the Recreational (pre-assembled) series and the Professional (blade only) series.

Recreational Series: For Developing Players

These come pre-assembled with rubber and are designed for those learning the game. They use a "star" rating or numbered sequence to denote performance.

  • Timo Boll 1000–3000: These are the standard entry-level rackets. The 1000 uses Pan Asia rubber for a balanced, controlled feel. As you move up to the 2000 and 3000, you get slightly more responsive sponges. The 3000 often introduces basic carbon layers for a larger sweet spot and more "pop" on your shots.

  • Timo Boll CF (Carbon Fiber) Series: These are a step up in the recreational line. By adding thin carbon layers to a 5-ply wood base, Butterfly creates a lighter, stiffer racket. These are perfect if you want to play a faster, more modern attacking game without jumping straight into professional gear.

  • Timo Boll SG Series (Smart Grip): These feature a unique handle designed to fit the palm more naturally, improving the "connection" between the player and the racket.

Professional Series: For Serious Competitors

If you see these in a shop, they are usually just the "blade" (the wood), and you choose your own rubbers to glue on. These are the models Timo Boll has used throughout his career.

  • Timo Boll ALC (Arylate-Carbon): The most popular blade in the world for offensive loopers. It uses a mix of Carbon (for speed) and Arylate (for vibration dampening and "dwell time"). It allows you to produce heavy topspin while maintaining incredible control.

  • Timo Boll ZLC / ZLF: The ZLC version is faster and harder than the ALC, designed for players who want a direct, "glass-cannon" style of play. The ZLF removes the carbon entirely, focusing on Zylon fiber for a soft, flexible feel with maximum spin potential.

  • Timo Boll CAF (Control Assist Fiber): A newer entry that uses "CA Fiber" to bridge the gap between all-wood blades and high-speed carbon. It’s a great "first carbon blade" for players moving into competitive club play.
